LASER HAIR REMOVAL

"WHY DOES THE LASER WORK BETTER THAN ELECTROLYSIS?"
In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, waxing, shaving, or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary.  For long-term hair removal, electrolysis is popular and effective but can be painful and slow. It typically takes months or even years of regular repeat treatments – even for small areas, like between your eyebrows. Risks include electrical shock, infection, and pitting or scarring.

"HOW DOES THE COHERENT LIGHTSHEER DIODE LASER WORK?"
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colors of light. The color of light produced by a particular laser is the key to its effect on hair follicles.

The light emitted by the LightSheer Diode Laser is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair's regrowth.

Importantly, LightSheer’s special contact cooling hand piece cools and protects the surrounding skin while bringing the laser energy as close as possible to the hair root.

"WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?"
The length of a laser session maybe a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Because the laser tends to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, more than one treatment may be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase. However, one treatment may result in a significant enough improvement that it may be all you desire or require.

"DOES THIS PROCEDURE HURT?"
The laser treatment itself can cause a slight – tingling sensation. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. But because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical numbing cream is available.

"WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?"
The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment. Immediate after effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling, which disappear in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away. We will be happy to tell you more about the treatment and what to expect during your FREE consultation.

NEOSTRATA GLYCOLIC ACID PEEL

"WHAT CAN A GLYCOLIC ACID PEEL DO FOR ME?"
Sometimes called a superficial peel, these peels can make a big difference in the way your skin looks and feels. They can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, superficial scarring, age or brown spots, uneven texture, and acne scars.

"HOW MANY PEELS DOES IT TAKE TO GET THE RESULTS I WANT?"
Many physicians recommend a series of 6 peels. With a series, your physician can achieve similar results to what you’d see after a more invasive procedure, like a deeper, chemical peel. A series of superficial peels can give you all the benefits – less visible lines and wrinkles, a more even skin tone, and improved skin texture – without the long recovery period or potential problems associated with deeper peels.

"HOW SOON AFTER A PEEL CAN I GO OUT IN PUBLIC?"
You can resume normal activities immediately after your peel. That’s why they are often called "lunch time peels" because they don’t require "down time" afterward. For the first few days following a peel, you will need to use a special cream (such as the post-peel NutriCream from Glaxo Dermatology) to restore your skin to its normal condition faster. After that, you can return to your original alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) at – home skin care regimen.

"WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PEEL?"
Preparation for your peel starts two weeks before, when you should begin using AHA products at home to get your skin accustomed to their effects. On "Peel Day", your physician will cleanse your skin, and then place petroleum jelly around your nostrils and lips for protection. After the glycolic acid is applied, you may feel warmth or a mild stinging or itching. But this sensation won’t last long, as the peel is left on for less than five minutes during your first visit. The peeling action is stopped with a special cooling solution, and wet compresses are pressed against your skin. An emollient cream is then dabbed sparingly on your skin. Then you’re free to resume normal activities.

"DO I NEED AN IN-OFFICE PEEL IF I’M ALREADY USING AHA PRODUCTS AT HOME?"
Yes. The combination will get you the results you want faster. Besides, there’s a big difference between the glycolic acid products you may be using at home and the glycolic acid peels your physician offers. These peels deliver the purest form of glycolic acid available – "free" acid. This means that the peel is not buffered or "toned down" like at-home products and will provide faster, more dramatic results.

"ARE THESE PEELS JUST FOR THE FACE?"
No. Your physician can perform peels on your hands to diminish age spots (the first place to show your age), or to lessen acne scarring or sun spots on your chest, neck, or back. These areas all respond well to peels.

"PEELS ARE JUST FOR WOMEN, RIGHT?"
Wrong! Men are just as likely to experience uneven skin tone, acne scarring, or sun damage and can also benefit from a peel. Glycolic acid peels are ideal for just about anyone who wants younger, healthier- looking skin.

LASER FACIAL BLOOD VESSEL, REDNESS, AND SCAR REMOVAL

"HOW LONG DOES THIS PROCEDURE TAKE?"
Depending on how big the area is determines how long the procedure will take. The average amount of time is 10 to 20 minutes.

"WHAT IS THE HEALING TIME WITH THIS PROCEDURE?"
You will be slightly bruised in the area that is treated for 2-3 days. Any type of makeup may be applied right after the procedure for coverage.

"WILL THE LASER LEAVE AN OPEN WOUND?"
No. The light of the laser passes through the skin and explodes the blood vessel from underneath the skin, which leaves no open wound on the skin.

OBAGI "BLUE" PEEL

"HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY PERIOD?"
After the procedure, you will experience light swelling, and your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days. This peeling will continue over the next several days and should be healed in an average of 7 to 10 days.

If you are having a lighter, exfoliative Blue Peel, healing is completed in 3 to 6 days.

In either case, this peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle for long, although you may want to limit your normal activity.

"CAN I APPLY MAKE-UP AFTER A BLUE PEEL?"
To best aid in the recovery process makeup should only be applied after the skin is completely healed.

"HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK AFTER RECOVERY?"
When your skin has completely finished peeling, you will immediately notice the dramatic results of your newly improved complexion. Your skin’s appearance will continue to improve for the next 4 to 6 weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier, and more youthful looking.

"HOW CAN I MAINTAIN THE BENEFITS OF THE BLUE PEEL?"
Keeping your skin’s new healthy glow and youthful appearance is an ongoing process. The Obagi Nu-Derm restoration system is an at-home program designed to promote long-term overall skin health and work safely and effectively in conjunction with the Blue Peel.

SPIDER VEINS

"WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN A TREATMENT SESSION?"
Warmth or stinging during treatment, depending on solution used; leg cramps can follow, but are rare.  Compression stockings are required for a few days.  No high-impact exercise for a month.  Treated veins may have a slight bruising but will fade over a few months.  Works for all skin tones.

"ARE THERE ANY COMPLICATIONS?"
Small brown spots or lines caused by blood leakage;  these usually fade within a few months.  Rare:  Allergic reaction to sclerosing solution.

"WILL TREATED VEINS RECUR?"
It may seem that a previously injected vessel has recurred when a new spider vien has appeared in the same area.

"HOW SUCESSFUL IS SCLEROTHERAPY?"
After several treatments, most patients can expect an 80-90 percent improvement.  However, fading is gradual over time.

VARICOSE VEINS

"WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN A TREATMENT SESSION?"
Same effects as with spider veins, though the recurrence rate at three years is higher.

"COMPLICATIONS?"
Common complications are the same as for sclerotherapy treatment of spider veins.   Rare:  Allergic reaction to sclerosing solution or nerve damage.

BOTOX

"WHAT IS BOTOX?"
Botox is a diluted form of Botulinum toxin which effectively relaxes muscles that cause wrinkles.

"HOW DOES BOTOX WORK TO REDUCE WRINKLES?"
Botox is injected in areas such as forehead, frown lines and crow's feet to relax those muscles in the surrounding areas.  The results of the injection are a non-wrinkled appearance.

"IS BOTOX SAFE?"
Although Botox is a toxin, there have not been any serious side effects reported.  The most common minor complication is a slight drooping of an eyelid.  Botox is used in minute amounts and does not spread throughout the body.

"IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER BOTOX INJECTIONS?"
No.  During the process of injection you will feel a slight stinging sensation that lasts for about 1 minute.  Once the injection is complete there are cool compresses applied to the area immediately.

After the injections are completed you may continue with normal activity.

"AM I CONSIDERED A CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?"
Botox is used to treat wrinkles for almost anyone.  A benefit of Botox is that making repeated appointments for injections will prevent further lines of the skin caused by frowning or squinting.
